Manufacturing Orders Suggest Recession

Manufacturing Orders Suggest Recession
Other than the chart of 20 states indicating recession, I haven't seen a better graphical depiction of the country's current plunge into recession than this one. This is a chart of the value of manufacturers' new orders excluding aircraft. Recessions are shaded in gray. Notice that, even without adjusting for inflation, the value of orders has never matched its 2000 high. That's because we've been in an economic depression ever since, and we're on the 3rd leg down.

  1. Anonymous One again. I like your articles because they're succinct and they always make a good point. I don't like reading more than a paragraph or two electronically - I prefer dead trees - so viewing your writings is just right for hold-outs like me. And I'm not even all that old! Born in the 1970's. Keep up the good work.
